. >> paul ryan was trying to praise romney's career as governor in massachusetts. and biden said, wait a minute he's not even competing there, he can't carry his own state. and the republicans have been making a lot about his bipartisanship. he was able to get along with the democratic legitimate slate stur. the democrats in the legislate stur were far more cooperative with the republican governor than the republicans are today with the democratic president. >> let's turn to the state we can't seem to talk enough about, ohio, the buckeye state. both candidates doing anything they can to win over specifically michael smerkonish, working-class voters in ohio. for romney, that's about calling out obama for being weak on china, this is yesterday. >> we're going to do this, we're going to make sure when people cheat and china has been cheating, we're not going to let it go on. i'm not going to pass it off. on day one i will label china a currency manipulator and we're going to get serious when we make sure that people don't cheat when it comes to trade. >> is that a message that's going to

know the campaign was feeling really good about it, feeling like paul ryan has hut romney there and you have a poll like this. the only thing i can say about people moving around so much is they're obviously not happy for obama and they're looking for an all thalternative. what happened was an alternative showed up at the debate and had to meet a certain threshold to say okay, this guy actually, yeah, he could be president, and so what has to happen in the next debate is obama has to convince people that a, no, he's not ready to be president, and b, you've gotta stay with me because we're on the right track, we're moving in the right direction. you don't want to change courses mid stream. > >> shannon: a much tighter race in ohio where the averages are going in favor of the president. of course, that's a key state for anybody who wants to get to the white house. do you think that romney has a chance to break through there because the latest poll out that the obama campaign is citing gives a 5-point edge and it's sometimes an outlier and leans left. they're touting it this morning saying

in battleground states. president obama is in virginia while mitt romney is courting votes in ohio. ken molestina reports on the latest from the campaign trail. >> reporter: the romney ticket hit the groundhard in ohio. v.p. candidate paul ryan spent the day chumming it up with supporters at a tailgate. while mitt romney led another rally in what is being described as a must-win state. >> i'm counting on you. let's make it happen. >> reporter: governor romney went before scores of his supporters and criticized president obama saying he wasn't cracking down on unfair trade practices by china negatively affecting the american job market. >> i want to make sure when people cheat, when they don't follow the rules in trade, we finally hold them accountable. it's time for us to stand up to china for their cheating. it's got to stop. >> reporter: this weekend the president defended his decision to bail out the auto industry claiming the move helped save jobs in the u.s. >> g.m. is back. ford and chrysler are growing again. together our auto industry created a quarter million new jobs right here in ameri

of ryan as a candidate. the fact that he was against the stimulus but asked for stimulus money. romney had that big foreign policy speech and said the president didn't sign any trade agreements. paul ryan voted in favor of a trade agreement that president obama signed. so these were some of the things that came out. >> so in other words, when -- the criticism of this guy, when you said, he was rude, i don't understand that. i don't understand he didn't talk about -- >> really? >> no. he didn't call someone a name, talk about their mother. that's kind of what people do when they're having an actual conversation. whether it's someone on the right or the left. mitt romney was very aggressive in the presidential debate, and some people said it was bordering on rude. but guess what? he won that debate. you may think that joe biden was rude, but that's all part of the process. what's wrong with that when you're in a debate? >> well, people are rude. so you drew a correlation how people are in real life and people are rude in real life, don. that's not necessarily a net positive. look, joe biden

against paul ryan on thursday night. there's a lot at stake. you see gov. romney surging in a lot of these key battleground weather virginia or ohio. they know the president has to come up big. and david actionling rod is suggesting the president may take a more aggressive tone tuesday night. take a listen. >> i think he's going to be aggressive in making the case for his view of where we should go as a country and a country that's built around a growing, thriving middle class, not the top-down theory that gov. romney has. >> but when you talk to top democrats, they know the president has to be careful and not necessarily be too aggressive like we saw vice president biden on thursday night because it will be a town hall format with undecided voters. it could backfire if you are too negative. there's a balancing act. meanwhile on the republican side, las you see is gov. romney has been surging in key battle ground, he was in ohio yesterday with rob portman, campaigning there. and pressroom had nor debate prep yesterday morning before holding several rallies throughout the state of
